Washdown Silt Traps – Gross Pollutant Collection Trap (GPCT)

Silt Trap-PT600Silt traps, also referred to as gross pollutant collection traps are economical devices used for the removal of floating debris from stormwater run-off. They prevent solid waste e.g. non-biodegradable contaminants such as sediment and rubbish from entering drainage systems and ultimately our waterways, resulting in pollution.

Silt traps are ideally suited to wash down applications and open areas such as industrial unit developments and hard paved areas where silt and debris is otherwise unable to be controlled.

Replacing conventional stormwater catch pits, multiple units are installed over the site to ensure that effective cover is provided.

As these units replace conventional pits they offer a major cost saving by eliminating the IN-line interceptors required by local authorities as part of their water management plan.

If you require additional protection from hydrocarbons, we also offer the Fox BPT600 baffled gross pollutant collection trap which can control minor quantities of hydrocarbons when the risk of their presence is high but the potential volumes are small i.e. in small scale wash down applications and car parks.

How Silt Traps Work

Silt Trap - Gross Pollutant Collection Trap

The unit works by trapping sediment above .3mm with 99% removal capacity. Once trapped the sediment settles to the bottom of the basket and can then be manually removed from the system.

As silt traps are effective in removing floating debris but unable to remove dissolved contaminants they are often used in conjunction with other treatment systems as they are relatively simple to install, and have a small footprint.

The unit contains a basket with 50L capacity, which being light enough to handle ensures low cost servicing and maintenance.

Our silt traps can manage a flow rate of up to 5L/sec with 130L chamber capacity. If the flow capacity is exceeded, or the unit becomes congested due to not being serviced regularly water will begin to flow back to the catchment area. This can be prevented by installing a high flow basket. *Please refer to specification provided below for more details.
